Join Us! Sustainable Bremerton
is diverse group of individuals organized to promote sustainable living practices and
policies among people, businesses, and public agencies.
For most products we buy, and many decisions we make, there are sustainable alternatives
to business as usual: greener buildings, buying local, better reuse & recycling,
natural lawn care, using low-voc paint, pervious pavements, supporting local agriculture,
clean energy ...the list goes on and on. Making sustainable decisions means a better
quality of life for people and the planet.
If you are interested in Clean Energy, Green Building, Local Agriculture, or any other
sustainability issue, we invite you to join us as we work to find ways to engage the entire
community in a more sustainable lifestyle. We meet on the 4th Tuesday each month 6:30 pm
at the Rice Fergus Miller Annex, 253 4th Street, Bremerton. Next meeting
is October 28th. For more info, or to get on the email list to be notified of
meeting times, contact us at sustainablebremerton@gmail.com.

Speak Up for SEED
The Port of Bremerton is holding 2 town meetings to discuss the SEED (Sustainable
Energy and Economic Development) project. The project's goal is to diversify our
economy by creating a "regional center for clean tech business". They have just
accepted a federal matching grant, but this in no way makes it a done deal. There
is a concern about whether there is enough public support to continue to move forward
with this. If you care about this project, now is the time to make your voice heard.
On Wednesday, Nov. 12th, there will be two meetings held, one at 3:30 pm, the other
at 7 pm, at the newly renovated Comfort Inn, 5640 Kitsap Way (just west of Hwy. 3).

Volunteer Oportunity For Citizen's Advisory Committee Community
Development Block Grant Program
The City of Bremerton Community Development Block Grant Program is seeking volunteers
to sit on the Citizens's Advisory Committee. Committee members commit to a 3 year term,
but since the committee only convenes once a year (usually late August through late
September), it's a low pain-high gain position. Advisory Board members review applications
for funding, assess them based on set criteria, and make funding recommendations to the
City Council for adoption.
This is a great City committee to sit on for a number of reasons: small time commitment,
large community impact, excellent learning experience for non-profits considering seeking
funding of any kind in the future, and an opportunity to learn more about the City's
needs and challenges.

Bremerton's Sustainability District
In December 2007, the Bremerton City Council approved the Downtown Sub Area Plan which
provides long-term direction for the continued revitalization of the downtown core. The
Plan encourages the incorporation of sustainable design and specifies a "Sustainability
District"; a multifamily neighborhood where sustainable building practices are encouraged.
The district is located between Warren and Park Avenues and between 6th and 11th Streets.
The new Kitsap Community Resources Building, Bremerton's first LEED Certified building, is
in this district. You can view the Downtown Sub Area Plan at:
